Tourlou Recipe
I had a dream last night that my yiayia was making this, and I remembered the aroma and flavors of “tourlou”.
I wanted to share this lovely recipe with you. This is a great vegetarian recipe and for you vegetarians out there, you will enjoy this.
It’s almost like Ratatouille, but Greek style. 🙂
Yiayia’s Tourlou Recipe
Ingredients-
1 eggplant
1 zucchini
2 potatoes
1 leek
1 white onion
1 bunch of parsley
2 bell peppers
extra virgin olive oil
sea salt & ground pepper
crumbled feta cheese
1 can of chopped tomatoes
1/4 cup of wine sauce
1 garlic minced
1 bunch of basil
Directions-
1. Preheat the oven to 430 degrees or 220 celsius.
2. Wash all of the vegetables and cut them into medium size chunks.
3. Boil the potatoes for about 5 minutes, and reserve some of the water.
4. Place all of the vegetables in a large tray.
5. Place the tomatoes, parsley, basil, garlic, salt and pepper in a blender, and mix until combined. Add in the wine, olive oil and water. Whisk to combined.
6. Mix the sauce with the vegetables, and place in the oven. Bake for about 1 hour or until brown and ready.
7. Crumble the feta on top once the vegetables are ready, and serve.
* Try a nice shot of ouzo or red wine with this.
* Kali orexi!
I would love to make this – how do you make your “wine sauce”? Have a great day, Krystina!
Its really simple. From this
step 5. Place the tomatoes, parsley, basil, garlic, salt and pepper in a blender, and mix until combined. Add in the wine, olive oil and water. Whisk to combined.
I like to use red wine too! 🙂
Thank you, Krystina! This is easy – I love using my food processor. And red wine. Of course, I never try any of the wine. 😉 hehe. Be well – Shanna
You are very welcome Shanna. Anytime. 🙂
I thought of sometime – maybe add “wine sauce” to the preparation section so that it is clear that the ingredients in the food processor are the “wine sauce”. Also, in the ingredients, you could say “wine sauce – recipe below” or something of that nature. I was confused at first, but your feedback set me straight! Thanks, Krystina! Recipe looks great. Warmly, Shanna
Ohh great idea. I will do that. Thank you for the input. Did you make it today?? I am searching for the spano for you now. 🙂
Hi, there, Krystina. I made a version of it – based on what was on sale and in season at WF, the money pit! Hehe. Delicious. I have noticed that you also love feta – do you prefer sheep, goat or cow feta? I have found some lovely sheep varieties! Take good care! Shanna
Ohh nice. I would love to see pictures, and how did it turn out? I prefer sheep feta, but it depends on your taste. Some Greeks love the strong feta, which might be too strong for others.
Very delicious, no pictures though. My camera has been frustrating me – I don’t completely understand it. 🙁 I need a lesson. Anyway, it was not true to the recipe. I have a very bad habit of improvising! I want to make this at some point exactly as written and I will take photos. 🙂 Chanukah is coming up, and Thanksgiving, so maybe I will put a Greek spin on one of the holidays for friends. I prefer sheep’s feta, too! I love strong cheeses. I recently found a nice Goat feta from Woolwhich Dairy in Canada that is quite nice. Be well! Shanna
Ohh no.. What kind of camera do you have? My boyfriend might be able to help, as he is a photographer and great with working out cameras. 🙂
Ohh that cheese sounds great, and yes I am working on a Greek Thanksgiving meal, and I always make spanakopita, carrot casserole, stuffing, and others. I will keep you posted. How about a pumpkin baklava cheesecake???
Krystina. I. Would. LOVE. LOVE. NEED. Help. Please! 🙂 I have a Nikon D7000 with a micro lens and also a standard lens. No idea what I am doing. Such a shame! I want to come to your Greek Thanksgiving. The Pumpkin Baklava “CheeseCake” has potential! Tell me more about what you are thinking? Layers of cream cheese, spices, pumpkin, nuts , brown sugar between phyllo? This has potential. You should be on Chopped. You are so creative. Oh, and on the Food Network note, really enjoying Restaurant Divided! Thank you for the amazing recommendation. AHHH. You make such amazing food! 🙂 Take good care! Shanna
Ohh You are invited lol! Just move to Cali and the catering will come together. 🙂 I love California and I recommend it. Especially San Francisco. 🙂 Okay do you have the app whatsapp? I can chat with you there and guide u through troubleshooting. My bf said what exactly do you need help with on the Nikon?
Krystina.
California sounds nice!
Nikon – help – everything. It’s quite sad. I have a nice camera and my photos are not up to snuff.
Whatsapp – I will look into it – don’t have it! I feel old! Should have heard of it.
Warmly, Shanna
Lol It’s okay. I started using whatsapp to chat with family in Greece, It’s not too popular yet. Okay so, send me to my email what exactly you need help with or help with a certain area on Nikon? My boyfriend asked me and I told him everything. LOL
Hi, there – Looked up the app. I have an iPhone – would it work? What’s your email? My main problem is that things are out of focus. Plus, with the micro lens, it often won’t autofocus at all and just goes in and out. I really think my settings are wrong for the all purpose and micro lens – some of my photos are quite blurry. It’s so sad! Thanks for your help. By the way, my email is shanna.ward@alumni.utexas.net – Warmly, Shanna
Hi Shanna,
Happy Friday! Okay I will relay the message to my boyfriend and hopefully he can fix it. 🙂 My email is kouzounaslive@gmail.com
Yes, I have a Iphone as well, and go into your App store and search Whats App, its a green logo.
Well, Krystina, you are too kind – as always. I have popped an email into your inbox with my information. Do have a fantastic weekend with your family and friends. And thank you for your warmth and support. Warmly, Shanna
Thank you. I will check my inbox today. I just came back from driving to Dublin, and I have a event tomorrow in the evening. I will be posting just a little post tonight. 🙂
I hope you are enjoying your weekend! 🙂
Hi, Krystina,
I enjoyed your post! Enjoy your event – have fun.
Best wishes,
Shanna
Hahhaa I am cracking up laughing while I was reading this. Funny you mentioned Chopped. I actually wanted to go on the Taste. Have you seen it? My mom went to school with one of the chefs moms on that show. His name is Adam Peschal and he owns 2 restaurants here in Sacramento. You should check out the show. Isn’t restaurant divided cool?
The Taste?! Do tell me more! I would love to watch it, Krystina. You would be a great competitor! How neat that your mom has a connection… Enjoy your weekend! – Shanna
Yes, I am not sure if it is on anymore. I follow Adam on Twitter, and here stories from my mom lol.
Yeah our moms were high school buddies. He is teaching some cooking classes here in Sacramento as well.
Krystina – This sounds like a great culinary connection for you to have. Maybe you two could even teach a class together. You could certainly do a cake portion since you shined in / enjoyed this area in pastry school. Take good care. – Shanna
Yes except he is very busy and he probably doesn’t have time for me lol. But good idea for me. 🙂 I will reach out to him on twitter. 🙂
Krystina –
It never hurts to ask. He may see your great potential and want to team up. If we don’t try, we don’t succeed, right? 😉
Enjoy your Sunday.
Warmly,
Shanna
That is very true. I will see what I can do. 🙂
