Saturday’s Food For Thought

Hello Friday, and hello weekend. I would like to apologize as Friday’s Menu will be cancelled today. It was a very busy day for me, and I am working on a project currently for our You Tube Channel. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I wanted to post Saturday’s Food For Thought today and tomorrow you will see a new recipe, along with some information that might come handy in the kitchen.

Saturday’s Food For Thought: Mastihaย

*If you don’t know what mastiha is please read below for some helpful information.

Mastiha comes from the Greek island of Chios which lies between the Greek and Turkish coasts.

Chios is the home of the mastiha trees. These trees produce the resin in drops or tears otherwise known as “Tears Of Chios.”

Why Mastiha??

The benefits of mastiha are great, and have been around for centuries.

The resin has many positive effects to your body and skin.

Mastiha has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and antimicrobial effects on the skin.

Mastiha gives the skin a healthy look to it, and reduces the oiliness of the skin.

You might have heard of mastiha being popular in toothpaste? It’s true, mastiha has the benefit of whitening the teeth, strengthening gums, and curing ulcers.

Not only is mastiha good for your skin it is great to cook with. ๐Ÿ™‚

You can add mastiha in soups, cookies, dessert sauces, and bread recipes.

Hope you enjoyed this post, and happy weekend to you all!! ๐Ÿ™‚ย

    • Hi Doda,
Thank you for your wonderful comments. Yes, I actually just learned a bit more about mastiha. I haven’t tried the cosmetics, yet but can you recommend any good ones? Thank you for enjoying my post. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

      • All over Greece we find them in the drugstores (pharmacies) and in UK I find them in the Liberty department store.Presumably, there will be other stores all over England that sell them.
Have a nice creative week,my WordPress friend !

    • Funny you say this! Yesterday I was doing a demo at Total Wine and More and one of the nice employees told me that retsina has a pine aroma to it as well. I never noticed that. Very interesting. ๐Ÿ™‚
