~Aloha From Maui~

I wanted to surprise my blogger friends and community today! We are in Maui for my sisters wedding that is being taken place on this lovely island. I will not be posting Our typical Featured Recipe Thursday or other categories. But I will have a two week special of Maui recipes, where to visit, what the best restaurants are, and plenty more. Follow me on this magical island and check out the great posts to come.

Hawaiian Lingo:

Aloha: Can be used to say hello and goodbye.

Mahalo: Thank you

Howzit: Short for how’s it going.

Shaka: Universal hand gesture of Hawaii that can be used as a form of thanks, a greeting, or a good bye.

Shark Bait: The stark white skin tourists like to tan while visiting the 50th state. Why “shark bait?” Because in the ocean, sharks find that white skin so visually yummy.

Haole: White person but not necessarily derogatory or demeaning, just a fact.

Ohana: Family that can consist of immediate family members, extended relatives, and friends.

Ono: Delicious or scrumptious. “This fish was Ono.”

Now you can chat with the locals or at least know what they are referring to. 🙂

Mahalo and cheers from Kouzounas Kitchen!!

    • Lol yes. Haha. We are having a great time and I can’t believe it has been many years since I have seen Maui. It actually reminds me a little bit of Greece. Thank YOU Elaine for your wishes and I hope to be able to post something awesome tomorrow. 🙂

  1. Aloha Krystina! Have a beautiful time at your sister’s wedding and Maui. The Hawai’ian islands are one of my favourite places. Malama pono.

    • Aloha Ahila,
Beautiful name you have. Thank you so much for the wishes and yes Maui is truly a magical Island filled with beautiful natural landscapes. I am happy to be back and I will definitely post some recipes tomorrow. Of course some native recipes of Hawaii. If you have any you would like to share please feel free to give me a shout out on here. Mahalo 🙂

      • Thank you 🙂 You have a beautiful name as well. I do remember some of the Hawaiian dishes I had while living in Honolulu (poi, ahi poke, lau lau and the plate lunches). Unfortunately, I did not have the interest in cooking then that I now have so did not bother much with the recipes. Looking forward to yours.

      • Mahalo. 🙂 Yes the cooking here is amazing. Everything is very fresh and tropical. I absolutely love the papaya here. I want to check out the local farmers markets because my parents said they are amazing. We had poi last night long with pulled pork. Amazing!! I too look forward to following you and thank you for enjoying my posts. Aloha. 🙂
