Traditional Greek Coffee Recipe
Hello beautiful friends! New Year means new recipes for you all. 🙂
On today’s post, I wanted to share a little bit about my love for my yiayia. I have received an outpour of love and many msgs from Greeks around the world who appreciate my love for the Greek culture. So thank you, and that means so much to me!
Follow me on Instagram, and share your Greek memories with us. Maybe its a memory of you cooking with your yiayia, or even dancing alongside the limani? I would love to hear all about it.
A trinket I hold near and dear from my yiayia Stavroula is the briki she passed down to us. I had a thought the other day to share my Greek coffee recipe from my cookbook “Back To My Roots.” For those who can’t seem to find a briki they like, I do have 2 available in silver. Along with the briki’s I have Greek coffee. If you are interested to purchase please click here.

Greek Coffee Anyone??
Ah yes, why did all these Ikarians live up to 100 +? Maybe it could be the Greek coffee and the relaxation of the island. According to a study by Dr. Siassos, a professor of the University of Athens said that the people who were a part of the study (85 %) to be exact, consumed Greek coffee, and had a stress free lifestyle. Dr. Siassos was researching people with diabetes, and high blood pressure. The study found that the people who consumed Greek coffee had a better endothelial function. (Endothelial is the layer of the cells that lines the blood vessels. Some things that affect endothelial is smoking, and a stressful lifestyle. So the Ikarians seem to be enjoying life while sipping on some good Greek coffee and reaping the benefits.
American Coffee Vs Greek Coffee
American coffee is typically filtered coffee, which the hot water drips into the coffee grounds to extract the flavor and caffeine.
Greek coffee is boiled rather than brewed. While brewing the coffee, this helps extract much more nutrients from the coffee vs filtered coffee.
There you have it! Enjoy life like the Ikarians, and go grab yourself some Greek coffee and a briki!

Thank you very much! 🙂
Greek coffee is more of what we are used to here in Croatia 🙂
That is great Kreso! How do you drink yours? (Sugar/ Milk/ or plain?)
Plain if in a hurry, but as we Croatians love sipping coffee for hours at a time while hanging out with our friends then usually I like it with milk and a tsp of brown sugar 🙂
