Fava Pantremeni Dip Recipe
Happy Mother’s Day to all today.
I am wishing those who lost their dear moms a special day too. I know it is hard when you lose a parent, and I hope you find the strength to carry on. Recently my friend lost his mother, and my heart has been broken. I am hoping the family finds a way to be strong and carry on through these really tough times.
Today I am sharing a beautiful Greek dip that involves yellow split peas. Such a delicious dip to enjoy by itself, or with crackers, or even as a wrap. Did you know yellow split peas are an excellent source of protein? Check out more information on the benefits here.

Fava Padremeni – Φάβα Παντρεμένη
A recipe from my second cookbook A Drop of Ladi & My Greek Soul.
Translating to married fava, “padremeni” a beautiful traditional Greek dish made with yellow split peas. I’ve had very tasty fava in Elounda, Crete.
- 2 cups yellow split peas, cleaned and washed
- 3 medium scallions, chopped
- 6 cloves garlic
- ½ cup olive oil
- 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon Greek oregano
- salt & pepper
- A pinch of turmeric powder (I added this ingredient for the benefits and the color)
- Place the split peas into a large pot with enough water to cover them (about 5 cups). Add a pinch of salt to the water and cook over high heat until the mixture comes to a boil.
- Let the peas boil for about 5 minutes and remove any foamy water from the surface. Add the scallions and garlic. Cook over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes or until peas are tender.
- Once the peas are tender transfer to a blender. Add olive oil, lemon juice, paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and turmeric. Blend until the mixture is smooth.
- Serve with a sprinkle of oregano and a drizzle of olive oil. Best with pita crackers or serve with our lemon chicken.
