Kouzounas Kitchen’s Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

Calling all chocolate chip cookie lovers out there—where you at?! I know you’re out there somewhere, and I need your attention for a moment. Chocolate chip cookies don’t seem to get talked about much anymore. It feels like they’re the cookie everyone knows, but somehow they’ve lost their popularity.

Well, I’m bringing them back, y’all.

I love chocolate chip cookies, but I’m picky—they need to be crispy on the outside with a soft, chewy center. Oh, and my family already demolished a dozen and a half, so I think it’s safe to say this recipe is pretty dang good.

And the key ingredient? Molasses, people! Molasses adds a rich depth of flavor and gives the cookies that perfect chewy texture.

LETS BAKE!

Servings: 20-25

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter room temperature ( 1 cube of butter)
  • 1 3/4 cup of organic sugar + 3 tablespoons of molasses (see notes)
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla flavoring
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour + 1/4 cup
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips plus reserve extra for baking

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
  2. Make sure to have the sugar and molasses mixed together thoroughly.
  3. In a bowl of a mixer, mix the butter and sugar until creamy. About 4 minutes. Add the vanilla, eggs, and salt and mix until combined. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the mixer to make sure all ingredients are combined.
  4. While the mixer is running on low, add the flour in slowly. Then fold in the chocolate chips. (You can add more or less chocolate chips.)
  5. Now take about 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons of dough and roll in your hand. Then place directly on a baking sheet. Make sure to leave some space between each cookie, as they will expand in the oven.
  6. Once the cookies are on the baking sheet, top cookies off with a few chocolate chips in the center. Pat down lightly to place chocolate chips on top.
  7. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown. If you want soft cookies, bake for less time. If you want crispier cookies bake an additional few minutes until golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven and let cook on wire rack.

Enjoy cookie fans!

Notes:

  • You can sprinkle extra fine salt over the top before baking for a little sweet and salty flavor.
  • Add more chocolate chips to the top before baking if you like! The more the merrier.
  • Molasses makes this cookie recipe shine! It adds depth to the flavor and creates a wonderful texture too.
  • You can freeze these cookies inside a sealed container up to 3-4 months.
