Holiday Spiced Pomegranate Liqueur Recipe
Recipe updated November 19th 2024.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of Vodka or Everclear
- 3/4 cup organic sugar (see notes)
- 1 cup of filtered room-temperature water
- 5 pomegranates, reserve pods & juice
- 1 large cinnamon stick
- 1 lemon- reserve peel & juice
- 1 orange- reserve peel & juice
- 1 vanilla bean- reserve seeds
- 2-3 cloves (optional)
Notes:
- You can use more or less sugar depending on how sweet you would like your liqueur.
Removing the pods from the pomegranate can be a pain and messy! Please read my recipe notes here for that step under “preparing the pomegranates” click here.
- Although the technical term for pomegranate seeds is “arils” I use the term pods in my recipe.
Directions:
- Remove pods from pomegranates, and reserve the juice & pods in a large bowl. See notes for removing the pods. Set juice and pods aside in a medium bowl. (Make sure to throw away the rind and skin of the pomegranates.
- Whisk the vodka, sugar, and water together in a bowl. Add to the pomegranate juice & pods.
- Prepare the lemon and orange peel, and add the peels & juice of both fruits to the pomegranate juice. Add the rest of the ingredients to the bowl. Give the mixture a good stir to combine ingredients and pour into a large glass jar.
- Seal the jar, and make sure you store it in a cool dark place. Swirl the mixture daily, making sure the ingredients are well combined.
- Steep for 40 days, or until you have achieved the desired flavor.
- After the mixture has infused for 40 days, strain the liquid using a mesh cloth or fine strainer. Place the liquid into a sterile glass jar with a lid.
