  • Oil for frying
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dried sourdough crumbs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 medium leek, chopped
  • 1/3 cup of finely chopped fresh Greek oregano
  • 3 tablespoons finely chopped mint
  • 3 tablespoons dill finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon dried cumin
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 orange, reserve juice
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • Salt & Pepper

Method:

  1. Combine the bread crumbs and milk in a large bowl.
  2. In another bowl, mix the meat, eggs, leek, Greek oregano, mint, dill, cumin, garlic, and honey together.
  3. Add the meat mixture to the bread crumb mix, and combine.
  4. Season the mixture with salt and pepper. Heat a large pan, with olive oil.
  5. Take a tablespoon of the mixture and roll into balls. You can roll them into flour if you like, to bind them if needed.
  6. Place a few keftedes in the pan at a time. Cook until each side is golden brown.
  7. Drain on paper towels. Serve with freshly squeezed orange juice.
